NBK Facade Inspires Apartment Design for HGTV Urban Oasis GiveawaySM
13 October, 2010
HGTV’s Urban Oasis GiveawaySM will give away a furnished apartment in The Residences at W New York Downtown. The apartment was designed and decorated by HGTV host and interior designer Vern Yip.
Charged with designing the spacious apartment in the heart of the financial district, Yip found inspiration from New York City’s iconic architecture. He cited the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) building’s “clean, stacked” look as the influence behind the bathroom design.
The exterior look of MAD was a collaboration between Allied Works Architecture, NBK, and Dutch ceramic manufacturer, Royal Tichelaar. Together, they created a unique, iridescent glaze for the terracotta rainscreen used to clad the structure. (Click here to read the case study about our NBK Facade - MAD Project)
Yip translated the exterior look of MAD into the tile design to create a peaceful, spa-like space. He chose to cover the floors and walls with Ann Sacks glass tiles that would reflect light from the window into the space.
The unique exterior of the MAD building was shown in Architectural Products December 2009 issue focusing on products for exteriors.
