Whisper Motors? Enable Quiet Shade Motorization
15 June, 2010

Poway, CA (June 2010) – With its introduction of Whisper Motors™, Hunter Douglas Contract offers a new level set of motorized shading solutions. Whisper Motors bring new, quiet power, versatile controls, and reliability to Hunter Douglas Contract’s comprehensive selection of energy-efficient roller shades, shadings, and blinds. The motor is designed to provide exceptional performance for a complete range of commercial applications from single rooms, offices, and A/V spaces to building-wide automation.  Whisper Motors will be on display at AIA, June 10-12th in booth #603.

Key features of Whisper Motors:

Quiet Operation: The motors were engineered with sound-reducing gaskets and drive systems to minimize noise.

Power: Hunter Douglas Contract standard motors can operate shades up to 240-inches wide and 192-inches high.  Solutions for larger shades are also available.

Versatility: The motors were designed with best-in-class control boards that integrate with a wide range of other systems via dry contact, serial, or other protocols.

Convenience: Motorized shades are easy to operate.  It is possible to open or close multiple shades with the touch of a switch, or the click of a mouse.

Automation: Research shows that automated sun-tracking shades enable energy savings from lighting and HVAC systems by maximizing control of glare and solar heat gain.

Oversize Shades: Motorized systems are a good option for shading large windows, as the weight of an oversized shade can make it hard to operate.

Design Customization: Hundreds of fabric options are available for motorized roller shades, in addition to aluminum horizontal blinds and Silhouette® and Vignette® shadings, all of which allow for sophisticated management of light and glare.

The operating system uses motor model HDC 100s for shades up to 156-inches wide and HDC 200s for heavy-duty shades up to 240-inches wide.  The motors include powerful, integrated control boards that support intermediate stops, group control, and timers, and can send status reports back to an automation system to update shade positioning.  These versatile new controls allow shades to integrate with other automation and building management systems, making them ideal for both new construction and retrofits.
